Life expectancy of stage 5 chronic kidney disease is concerned about by many
people who are in this stage. In stage 5, GFR falls down to 15% and the
creatinine is more than 707. In China and other countries, people nearly all
come to dialysis period. The symptoms includes itch, nausea, loss of appetite,
tiredness, pins and needles in the hands or feet and, at a late stage, chest
pain due to pericarditis, which is inflammation of the lining around the outside
of the heart. Bleeding and bruising become more prominent. Patients are often
prone to infection and develop fluid retention with ankle swelling and shortness
of breath.
In stage 5 of chronic kidney disease, patients under dialysis for a long time
will ask the life expectancy for they have no confidence on dialysis. Indeed,
dialysis can help discharge excessive water, toxins in the body, which however,
has many disadvantage. Firstly, there must be damaged cells in the kidney, which
dialysis can not repair. Secondly, there are also necrotic cells in the kidney,
which dialysis can not differentiate. What’s worse, kidney disease is
developing, it can not stop. So to increase the life expectancy of chronic
kidney disease patients, we should find out a new therapy and stem cell therapy
is considered till now the best one to turn the table.
Stem cells are biological cells found in all multicellular organisms, that
can divide (through mitosis) and differentiate into diverse specialized cell
types and can self-renew to produce more stem cells. It can be used to treat
many kinds of diseases such as blood disease, diabetes and kidney diseases. The
application ways of stem cell can be divided into two kinds: injection via vein
and transplantation. The latter one needs stage 5 chronic kidney disease
patients to take in medicine to prevent the rejection after transplantation.
In our Hospital, we mainly use the former one, which means that patients
inject stem cell, which is convenient and safer. After this, the life expectancy
of chronic kidney disease will be prolonged.
