Is Coconut Water Safe for Kidney FSGS Patients

In FSGS stage, patients with chronic kidney disease are suggested to have more fruit which contains rich vitamin and can help them recover. However, not all fruits are suitable. For example, coconut is a common fruit in tropic area. So people who are dwelling there have chance to have coconut. FSGS patients also want to know whether it is suitable for them.
In children and some adults, FSGS presents as a nephrotic syndrome, which is characterized by edema (associated with weight gain), hypoalbuminemia (low serum albumin, a protein in the blood), hyperlipidemia and hypertension (high blood pressure). In adults it may also present as kidney failure and proteinuria, without a full-blown nephrotic syndrome.
So from the above, we can get a conclusion that FSGS patients are in kidney failure stage and there has been protein leaking out due to the damaged kidney function. At this time, if patients take in more protein, it will give more burden to the kidney. As a matter of fact, coconut contains rich protein, which does not do harm to their recovery. Besides, coconut water also contains much potassium, which should also be forbidden. For in renal failure stage, most patients are in electrolyte disorder and the level of potassium is higher than that of normal range.
Besides coconut water, FSGS patients should also avoid bananas. Bananas contain a large amount of sodium, which can also increase the burden of the kidney if it is taken in too much. In addition, too much intake of bananas can also worsen edema, blood pressure. Diabetic patients also should take in less of them for bananas contain much sugar as well.
If patients with FSGS have edema at the same time, they should also limit the intake of watermelon, pears, pineapples and so on. If patients with FSGS have anemia at the same time, they should have few oranges, which can combine with iron easily and worsen anemia. If the potassium in the patients with FSGS is high, they should also limit the intake of nut, date, shaddock, and so on for all of them contains much potassium in it.
The above mentioned are about whether patients with FSGS should have coconut water and other fruit they should limit. We sincerely hope it can benefit you and for more information, please consult us on line or email us.
