Lupus Erythematosus and Plasma Exchange

Lupus Erythematosus is a kind of self-immune disease which can spread into more than one organ in the body, the clinical manifestations of which are complicated. This autoimmune means there is a problem with the body's immune system. It develops slowly.
SLE may damage different parts of the kidney, leading to interstitial nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and membranous GN. It may rapidly worsen to kidney failure.
Symptoms
Symptoms of Lupus Nephritis include:
· Blood in the urine
· Foamy appearance to urine
· High blood pressure
· Swelling of any area of the body
Treatment: In clinic, besides immune treatment, patients should also pay attention to the plasma exchange, the combination of which can make sure of the therapeutic effect.
Plasma exchange:
Plasma exchange develops from 1980s, which means that the blood of patients is led into a plasma separator. Then, blood cells will be separated with blood plasma. The pathological protein will be discharged and then some amount of plasma will be supplied. In this way, some immune complex and other bigger molecules will be discharged out.
As for those with Lupus Erythematosus, plasma exchange is fit for those with serious disease with serious deposition of immune complex. It is also fit for those with acute diffuse proliferative lupus nephritis and those who have not serious renal glomerular nephritis.
Besides this, patients with lupus nephritis should also pay attention to the following aspects:
1. Take in more other medicine if necessary, which can help relieve the symptoms, and reduce the side effects. These medicines include Chinese medicine, and western one. In our Hospital, Chinese Medicine is a part of immune therapy, which can increase immune ability as well as improve blood circulation and dissolve the blood stasis.
2. Follow the doctor’s advice and have enough rest. Be optimistic and keep a good mood. Do not be too tired.
3. Do not take in medicine according to your own judgement. Do not stop the medicine suddenly by one self.
