IgA Nephritis Diet

IgA Nephropathy can be divided into five levels according to the renal biopsy. For example, the first level is minimal change. The second level is mild change. The third one is FSGS. The fourth level is diffuse mesengymal proliferative nephritis. The last level is diffuse sclerotic renal glomerular nephritis. These levels rank first slight damage to severe damage.
In the first stage, patients have no increased serum creatinine, no symptoms and no discomfort, we can also say, when the kidney function is normal, patients needn’t pay more attention to diet. They can choose whatever they like. However, with IgA Nephritis developing, serum creatinine will rise and patients should pay attention to the diet so as to assist the treatment and to avoid accelerating IgA Nephritis by giving kidney more burden.
Firstly, keep low amount of salt intake. As we know, kidney has function of discharging water. But now kidney is damaged. If we still take in much salt, the salt will lead to retention of water and sodium, which makes water more difficult to come out of the body. For those who have edema or swelling, it will make edema more serious.
Secondly, IgA Nephropathy should avoid spicy food such as pepper, etc. Pepper and so on will stimulate the body, influence the effect of medicine. Especially in our Hospital, patients apply Chinese Medicine. Spicy food will strongly influence the effect of herbs.
Thirdly, summer is coming. The soda drinks is on sale. However, for IgA Nephritis and other kidney disease patients, soda will cause damage. NKF(National Kidney Foundation) reports that in the past ten years, in America, people with kidney disease increases by 30%, which becomes 26 million. In addition, the American magazine travel also reported that soda drinks such as coca cola can lead to kidney disease, worsening IgA Nephropathy as well.
Fourthly, take in less plant protein and take in protein from lean meat, milk, egg white and so on. Plant protein can produce more nitrogen, which will give more burden to the kidney.
Fifthly, drinking wine should be forbidden, which can influence the balance of nitrogen in the body, increase the breaking down of protein, increase the amount of blood urea nitrogen, all of which can lead to the burden to the kidney.
