Diet for Kidney Shrinkage Patients Is Different From Others

What is the diet for kidney shrinkage patients? Shrinkage kidney means the fibrosis of kidney due to the damage in kidney especially in mesenchyma. This condition indicates that patients have become into stage 5 of chronic kidney disease which can also be called uremia. In this stage, serum creatinine rises to as high as 707umol/L and GFR decreased to as low as less than 15. In this stage, most patients are under dialysis, the diet of which is different from other kidney disease patients.
Firstly, the total amount of water intake every day should be the amount of urine plus 500ml. Here, the amount we take in includes the juice and other drinks we take in.
Secondly, patients who have high blood pressure (hypertension) and retention of water and sodium( edema, swelling, or dropsy) should avoid food such as salted vegetables, cans, salted snacks, and so on.
Thirdly, patients who are under dialysis should also choose good quality proteins, which can produce less nitrogen such as milk, egg white, and lean pork, etc. Such protein can supply enough amino acid, which is essential for the body. Beans contain bad quality protein which can metabolize more nitrogen. Kidney fails to secrete such wastes, so it will give kidney more burden, which should be attached more importance.
Fourthly, patients should avoid food which is rich in phosphorus such as animal’s organs, peanuts, snacks, dried fish, kelp, cheese, and so on and avoid food rich in potassium such as bananas, tomatoes, oranges, etc for in uremia stage, most patients have high level of phosphorus and potassium.
Last but not least, effective treatment is also essential and critical, which can prolong the life expectancy of patients with Shrinkage kidney.
