Renal Transplantation in FSGS

In Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) stage, Sclerosis means “scarring to the filters of kidneys, glomeruli”. The word “focal” is added because in FSGS, only some of the glomeruli become scarred. “Segmental” means that only some sections of the glomerulus becomes scarred, just parts of them. So patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) still have ability of recovering as long as not all glomeruli become sclerosis.
Some patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) consider renal transplantation. Is renal transplantation the most suitable for patients with FSGS?
Firstly, the donated kidney is difficult to gain. There are so many people who are suffering from kidney disease, and some of them have developed into renal failure stage or uremia, which means that the kidney can not work well. However, not every one would like to donated the kidney after his life is over. Especially in China, people are mostly influenced by traditional culture.
Secondly, although the donated kidney is found, the donated kidney should be matched with the person who is ready to receive kidney. If not proper, patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) will not only get in desperation and waste lots of time, delaying the treatment.
Thirdly, although the donated kidney is suitable for patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), patients need to receive an operation. When it comes to operation, many of us will think of risk. Of course, if the operation is not successful, patients even lose their life unfortunately.
Fourthly, the survival rate for donated kidney is limited. Some can accompany patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) all the rest life, and some can live for several months and several years. However, some even only live for several hours.
In addition, after being transplanted, patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) have to take medicine which can prevent the rejection.
So is there a better treatment for patients with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)? With technology developing, stem cell transplant received satisfactory effect in clinic. After stem cell is transplanted into patients’ body, it will generate and differentiate into many offsprings and different intrinsic cells, then repair the damaged intrinsic cells or differentiate into intrinsic cells which have been necrotic. In this way, renal glomerular basilar membrane is repaired, and proteinuria, occult blood etc will disappear forever.
In addition, stem cell is not difficult to get and it is transplanted just by injection and will cause no risk.
So compared with renal transplantation and stem cell, we can find out which is better. If you are interested in stem cell transplant, welcome to consult or email us.
